Garden Tour Plein Air Painter's Event & Wet Paint Reception
This year’s Hidden Gardens Tour will host the 3rd annual Plein Air Painting Celebration in collaboration with the Monterey Bay Plein Air Painters Association (MBPAPA.) All tour attendees are invited to attend a "Wet Paint" reception at the Village Shops in Big Sur from 5-7pm following the tour. Enjoy refreshments, live music and the artwork of 40 talented, regional artists who will be painting in the gardens on the tour in the traditional Plein Air style. Proceeds from the art sale benefit the Big Sur Arts Initiative.

Join us for three days of painting in beautiful Big Sur, sell your work and win awards!
This year's event is open to all Plein Air painters who are members of either either MBPAPA or the Big Sur Arts Initiative's ArtsBridge program. Painting will take place Thursday, June 19th, Friday the 20th and Saturday the 21st. On Saturday, we invite you to paint in one of the gardens on the Hidden Gardens Tour so you may connect with tour patrons and art buyers, and join us at the art sale and reception from 5-7 at the Village Shops.
Please read all of the information here before registering. Your registration demonstrates you understand and accept the following event guidelines:
- I understand I must be a member in good standing of either MBPAPA or the Big Sur Arts Initiative's ArtsBridge program in order to be eligible to participate. (If your membership has lapsed, you will have the option to add your annual dues payment to your registration here. If you're not sure of your membership status, please contact MBPAPA at 831-375-3224 or BSAI at 831-667-1530.)
- I understand that all work submitted for inclusion in this show must be created on “Gallery Stamped” canvases. Canvas stamping will be available in Monterey and Big Sur during scheduled times June 17th through June 20th. All work must be painted on location in Big Sur (between Mal Paso Creek, the Monterey County line, and the Old Coast/County Roads.)
- I will deliver work submitted for inclusion in this show to the Big Sur Arts Initiative by 4 pm on Saturday, June 21st, framed (no “self-framed” canvases), wired, priced, and ready-to-hang. I understand that if I submit work after that time my work will not be eligible for jurying and associated award money.
- All work that I present during this show must be offered for sale, with 50% of retail price retained by the Big Sur Arts Initiative.
- I will price my work to allow Big Sur Arts Initiative to offer a $50 discount on any paintings purchased during the art sale.
- I agree to allow images of my submitted work to be used by the Big Sur Arts Initiative for promotional purposes at any time. These purposes may include publication on a website, postcard, t-shirt or other distributed material.
- All work submitted for the show will be displayed for sale on June 21st and June 22nd. I will arrange for pick-up of my work in Big Sur by 5 pm on Monday, June 23rd. All work not sold or picked up by this time will become property of the Big Sur Arts Initiative.
- All work in this show will be produced in the Plein Air method. (This method refers to the process of completing a painting on location, by direct observation of the subject.) I will submit no more than three pieces to show, 900 square inches or less (inside dimensions). I understand all submitted work will be juried.
